UC Berkeley campus IT recently identified suspicious activity across the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) IT infrastructure. Upon discovery, the university began restricting network access to affected EECS systems and taking several systems offline as part of a comprehensive security protocol.
Any faculty and staff IT disruptions have been tied to campus actions to protect EECS systems via the comprehensive security response. EECS IT has been providing affected faculty and staff with alternative access pathways, and guidance for workarounds to access needed systems and functions.
EECS IT staff quickly restored instructional services to minimize impact to EECS courses, and they continue to engage in efforts to ensure continuity of instruction and research. System restoration is occurring gradually.
An investigation is underway to assess the scope and potential impact of the suspicious activity. Central campus IT services are not affected. The suspicious activity was detected using the university's security software (also known as endpoint detection and response).
