Fight the Phish Marketing Materials

Fight the Phish Sticker

We encourage the UC Berkeley community to take an active role in protecting themselves against phishing attacks.

We've created the 'Fight the Phish' campaign with the below materials to educate faculty, staff, and students on how to recognize and report phishing attacks. These materials are free to use and share within the UC Berkeley community, so feel free to promote them around your department, classroom, or home office.

  • Click on the below images or titles to learn more.
  • And don't forget to visit our Phish Tank for up-to-date examples of phishing attacks hitting campus.

Let's Get Ready To Report Phish!

Reporting is key. Using the bMail web interface:

  1. Open the message
  2. To the right of 'Reply' arrow, select 'More' (typically denoted with three vertical dots)
  3. Then 'Report phishing'

If you are unable to log into bMail, forward the message to phishing@berkeley.edu

Email spoofing is the creation of email messages with a forged sender address. Stop and look at the email address before you reply; if it’s suspect, report it.

This Time, It's Personal

Attackers use personal, public information about you to lure you into responding. Fight the phish by limiting your public data on social media sites. If you believe you've received a phishing attack, report it.

Keep Your Guard Up

Emails that create urgency and fear are usually fake. Look at the whole email and be skeptical: double check the “from” address to see if it’s legitimate. If the email doesn’t match the sender’s name, report it.

Float Like A Butterfly

Since emails can be spoofed, it’s a good habit to “float” your cursor over an address before replying. If the email doesn’t match the sender’s name, report it.

Get In the Ring

Attackers try to engage with you to send them money, buy gift cards, or reveal your personal information online. Don’t fall for their traps; fight the phish and report it.
